The Secret Garden

LIS 5th-Graders experienced a secret garden in Mrs. Marinez's reading class. She transformed her classroom into a magical garden because her students were reading The Secret Garden by Frances Hodgson Burnett. Students did a shared reading of the story and were making predictions throughout, pausing to engage in great discussions. Students created predictions and then were astonished at what was behind the garden door. Students went away knowing that the message in this novel is to think less about yourself and more about the others around you.
