LIS Goes Downtown!

LIS 4th Graders enjoyed their annual Chalk Day at the Hockley County Court House, sponsored by Levelland Community Outreach Center. Fourth graders decorated the Court House sidewalks with Chalk and enjoyed a homemade snack provided by the LCOC members. Then fourth and fifth-graders toured the Hockley County Library with Librarian Callie Nations. Mrs. Nations showed students the old school card catalog and encouraged students to get library cards for the summer reading programs and activities that are offered. Fourth and fifth-graders took a guided walking tour of downtown Levelland by using QR Codes, hosted by Levelland Main Street. Finally, LIS students experienced The Wallace Theater with Miss Allyson Keeling and the Levelland Middle School Pop-Up Museum on the Dust Bowl. Students watched a short presentation on the dust bowl, enjoyed popcorn, and then browsed the collection and projects assembled by Cathy McMahan's National History Day Class students. It was a great day to be an LIS student!
