GT Students Study Texas

LIS 4th Grade GT students in Mrs. Sela Black's class spent a month on a unit called “We Are Texans.” Students researched a country that migrated to Texas, why they were leaving that country, how the geography of Texas affected the settlers' decisions to move, and what they did for a living once they arrived. They learned how to research and about primary sources. After researching, the students wrote a journal about their adventurous expedition. They wrote about leaving their country, the journey to Texas, and their new life! After finishing the unit, they went with Mrs. Black on a Field Trip to the National Ranching Heritage Center to wrap everything up! They had a tour guide that went around and explained all the different things to the students! Thank you, Mrs. Black, for helping kids experience it all in real life! They will remember it forever! It's great to be a Texan!
