Inspirational Writers

LIS fifth-graders in Mrs. Tabitha Nelson's writing class have been working on many things this 4th Six Weeks and finally finished it up with an inspirational project! The students were challenged to find a person who could be considered an "Inspiration" to others and make a poster representing that person. Some of the inspirations written about were teenagers like Yash Gupta, who helps children worldwide see better with proper glasses through Sight Learning. Others were adults like Harriet Tubman, who saved slaves through the Underground Railroad. Within this one assignment, Mrs. Nelson's students used their skills and knowledge of research, citing sources, paraphrasing, quoting, and summarizing. These 5th-graders were so proud of their work and displayed their posters in the LIS hallway to be enjoyed by passersby. Thank you, Mrs. Nelson, for "inspiring" your students to be curious researchers and fantastic writers.
